3 Summer Snowboarding Alternatives

By: Tyler Briggs

Just because the off season comes doesn't mean the fun of snowboarding has to stop. Here are three boards that are designed to simulate the feel snowboarding. Any of these boards can be used by snowboarders to hone their skills and train during the off season.

The flowboard is a snowboard simulating board that has lots of wheels. It certainly has many more wheels than any other board that I know of.

The truck-less design of the flowboard makes it capable of carving up to 45 degree turns. That is sharp when compared to the wide 25 degree turns of a skateboard. The flowboard is exceptional for carving sessions down paved roads.

The t-board, made by Tierney Rides is that many snowboarders use to train with over the summer. The t-board has only two wheels that are on caster trucks. The design of the t-board makes it ride like a snowboard does when it is on its edge in snow.

The other boards both do a great job simulating the carving experience in snowboarding. The next board I'll tell you about is called the freebord. It does more than just reproduce how it feels to carve on snow, by also bringing in the sliding experience in snowboarding.

Extending out past the deck of the freebord are 4 wheels (two on each side) that are there to simulate the edge of a snowboard. This "edge" lets you control your speed like you would on a snowboard, and even come to a stop as you would on a snowboard. On the bottom of the freebord are two wheels that allow it to drift and slide, so while you are bombing down a hill you can slide into a switch stance.

All the above boards simulate in some way the riding experience in snowboarding. By riding one of these boards in the off season, you don't have to get stale because there isn't any snow.

With the flowboard, t-board, or the freebord you can experience the thrill of snowboarding in the off season and snowboard all year round.
