Let's get straight to it. Below are the 8 steps you must add to your wedding shower checklist to get you on your way to organising a great shower party. Who should host the shower? Tradition has it that the maid-of-honour normally plans and hosts the party. Having said that, friends and family normally get their heads together and decide who has the time to do the planning etc., so it does not necesarrily have to be the maid of honour. When to have your party The norm is to host the party about 4 to 6 weeks before the wedding date. This is because the bride and her family members will be very busy to the lead up to the big day. For this reason, it is important to let the bride know in advance of the date of the wedding shower. You could even make it through the day on a Sunday for afternoon tea or do a 'girly-lunch' through the week. Who should be invited Apart from your family members, the host should invite people you know well whether it be friends, relatives or work colleagues. You don't want to invite too many people, as a large group tends to split off in small separate groups. You see, the idea is to have all the party members to interact. You will be playing shower party games and you need everyone to get involved, no-one should be left out. For this reason, a good number will be approximately between 10-20 people. Decide your shower theme Choosing a theme for your shower is fun and it can be a fun or a practical theme. Keep your elegant theme for your wedding day. Don't forget to carry your theme through all your items on your wedding shower checklist. A kitchen theme is always a good one as there are so many kitchen items and accessories to buy. Having said that there are dozens to pick and choose from. The host knows the bride well and will surely fit a theme around either what the bride and groom need, or their lifestyle. For example if the happy couple are both into health and fitness, then a fitness theme could be an option. Food, favors, games and thank you cards Food: The location and theme of your shower party would determine the type of food you will supply. Are you having a garden tea-party? Then scones and sandwiches blend in with that theme. If you were having a wine party, then cheese, crackers and small nibbles would suffice. Favors: If you want to keep the cost down, then favors aren't that necessary. Many guests don't expect favors at a shower as what they do at a wedding. However, if you really like the idea of giving away favors, then go for it! Games: Brilliant for everyone to mingle in and have a good laugh. There's loads of games to choose from but the most popular is shower bingo and the silly 'memory game' where you have to remember what's in the bag! Thank You Cards: Normally a simple 'thank-you' was enough, but today, with showers being larger and guests busier, a personal note is the only way to make sure that sincere appreciation is expressed. Summary Weddy shower party's are intended to be light and fun. Yes, a lot of planning is involved but bride and guests all think that they are worth the effort. They are a good excuse for a good laugh and the bride and groom get gifts for their home...
