Be Wise and Cautious When Dating

By: Benjamin West

As young boys and girls become conscious of their developing sexuality, they may be disturbed or puzzled about the emotional, biological and physical changes they are experiencing. At the onset of puberty, young boys and girls would prefer to mingle mainly with members of their own sex, who are also experiencing similar changes.

When youth begin to mature and get confident, slowly they begin showing curiosity and interest in the other sex. Boys and Girls slowly learn how to conduct themselves with people of both sexes and of all ages too during adolescence. They grow more independent and capable of making decisions.

In America, and the majority of developed countries, boys and girls grow up together and are accustomed to being around each other well before reaching adolescence. Throughout childhood, they learn and play together, and enjoy a number of joint activities. During the teen year, relationships with the opposite sex gain importance and sometimes become difficult to understand.

When teens mature socially, emotionally, and sexually, they start to look for more close and personal relationships with those of the opposite gender. The age at which dating starts differs. It may either be dependent upon the environment they were raised in, to some degree, or it may stem from a desire to be like their friends.

Many teenagers begin to date by going out with another couple or a group of couples, to feel safe and emotionally secure. During the late teens, it is not uncommon to see youngsters preferring to go out alone with their date, especially in the present times. Usually, the boy requests the girl for a date and accepts responsibility for her. The majority of males and females look for their parents to approve prior to dating, unless they desire to do it in secret.

When going on a date, boys as well as girls have fun doing little things that bring them close to each other. As people get closer, they may want more contact than just holding hands. This is where they need to exercise restraint and maturity. A slight slip and surge of emotion can have serious ramifications leading to remorse, resentment and social stigma.

It is utterly important that youngsters understand and manage their sexual desires. When they do, probably they may have more happy and feel-good relationships with members of the opposite sex. There can be nothing more detrimental than getting entangled with a wrong person and hence it is better not to get carried away. A good dating should be the outcome of important moral standards and fervent personal emotions. Do not forget, that true love is eternal, yet lust lasts a moment.
