Snowboard Apparel - Things You Need For Snowboarding

By: Adrian Fletcher

For anyone looking for snowboard apparel, there are a few things that need to be considered before dusting off the credit card. The first thing you need to consider is what apparel is essential and what is merely optional. This will help you prioritize your purchases and save you money in the long run. This article will cover the essential items that you need and where to get them.

To begin, I think if you are new to snowboarding or have a tight budget you should try to rent as much snowboard gear as possible. Most gear can be rented at a reasonable price. The advantage of this is that you will not have much to pay to rent out all the gear and you will be able to try it out and see if you like it.

So you want to rent a snowboard and boots before you have tried snowboarding or if you want to see if a particular brand or make is for you. Most people will also hire a helmet and goggles if they are new or going into tricky terrain.

People even hire snow jackets and pants sometimes but most prefer to buy these types of apparel because they can be used generally rather than being specifically for snowboarding hence justifying the cost a bit more. Also people may be fussy about the style or be squeamish about wearing somebody else's hand me downs.

If you have decided to get some snowboard apparel I would recommend the following items as necessary.

Snow Jacket, Gloves, snow pants, protection for the eyes

The following items are nice to have but not essential (Better to hire until you know what you want).

Snowboard, boots, head gear (helmet).

If the cold weather gets to you then you may need some extra layers of clothing to keep you warm. Cold weather underwear can help with this. Cold weather underwear are like olden day long johns in that they cover most of the body and provide warmth. You may also think about getting a fleece as a middle layer to keep warm.

You can find the general snowboard apparel like the snow jacket, pants and scarves in most good department stores or specialist snow sports shops. The snowboard itself, bindings and boots are best in specialist shops because the staff can give you advice and they generally have an interest in winter sports and at least one will be a snowboarder.

A popular way to shop for some snowboard apparel is on the internet. There are many ski and snowboard stores that have great selections of apparel at reasonable prices. Of course it is often hard to shop for certain items online as you need to get a feel for them or try them one. However if you know what you want an online snowboard shop can offer good prices.

for smaller apparel like gloves, hats and scarve you could even take alook at the internet auctions. There are great prices to be found on ebay but factor in shipping costs if you are comparing like for like.

Once you have all your snowboard apparel you are ready to start the fun. If you are new it may take a bit of time to get the basic skills down. When you have these skills there will be no looking back in your snowboarding adventures.
