The Rolling Stones first met for a rehearsal in 1962 with Mick Jagger on vocals, Keith Richards playing guitar, Ian Stewart on keyboards and the organiser Brian Jones playing guitar. Who would have known that this band, joined by Dick Taylor on Bass and Tony chapman on Drums, would become one of the greatest rock bands in the world.Richards and Jagger, as the bands main song writers, loved to experiment with various styles and influences including R&B, American blues styles and rock music, making their music ground-breaking and original. They started their career with the usual rejected demo tapes from record companies and finding regular gigs in London. Their perserverence paid off when Oldham, secured them a record deal with Decca records, based on the idea that they were similar to the Liverpool band 'The Beatles'. The Rolling Stones started a run of cover songs in 1963, starting with 'Come On', a classic Chuck Berry song. They were still being led by Oldham and produced several hits with their covers. They gained a huge popularity and admiration from their fans when they played at the National Jazz and Blues Festival. Despite their successes and notoriety, Oldham saw that the band could not continue their run if they kept on playing other people's music. Pressured by Oldham, Mick and Keith began to turn over top hits, including their original, 'The Last Time.' Their fame was also not bound to the British shores, as their hits and albums were top on the American charts as well as London's. They had turned themselves effectively into a worldwide sensation, selling tickets and albums like all of the legends of the industry. Their attitude and image where just what people of that time were looking for as an alternative to the squeeky clean look of other bands. Their onstage lewd antics further enforced their rebellious, wild and sexual image off stage.Their rebellious image helped to maintain their status in the music industry. In 2005, they were back in the charts with their Bigger Bang Tour, producing $440 million dollars. As with any other legendary rock band, The Rolling Stones produced the music that people wanted, with hits that were revolutionary for their time and just what they desired.Their influences and beloved hits will live long into the future.
