Steroids is the commonly used term for anabolic steroids although in gyms they have many other names such as roids. They actually consist of various synthetic hormones whose purpose is to produce more muscle mass and strength in athletes and body builders alike. Steroids is really quite a loose term which covers hundreds of different products. Anabolic steroids come in different shapes and sizes ranging from testosterone esters to oral products. Generally steroids are used by strength athletes although they do exist in every sport whereby giving competitors a slight advantage. It is common in virtually every sport from tennis to baseball giving athletes more speed, improved performance and increase muscle strength. We are now in the 21st century and steroids are still not classified as a legal supplement for athletes as they would be considered to have an UNNATURAL advantage over their competitors. What complicates the issue even more is that anabolic steroids are illegal in nearly every country throughout the world, meaning you are forced to break the law in order to use them. Apart from being popular with athletes, body builders and wrestlers, due to increased muscle growth, they also appeal to non athletes due to vanity reasons. Testosterone is and always has been the most commonly used steroid and as a result has been synthesized to form every type of anabolic steroid that is available. There are virtually hundreds of different types but some of the most common forms used are estosterone enanthate, testosterone cypionate, deca durabolin, dianabol, anadrol and equipoise. The reason for forming derivatives of synthetic testosterone is to make the anabolic steroids more anabolic or androgenic. Anabolic Steroids are traditionally used by competitive body builders and lifters as well as casual users, mainly because of the minimal side effects even though you may hear otherwise. That is not the case with high androgen use whose side effects could include increased body hair, male pattern baldness, acne, oily skin, amongst others. Androgenic steroids also lead to quicker body mass increases although it may not be all quite so lean and another effect could be increased retention of liquids.
